Chemistry is an experimental science, and the best way to enjoy it and learn about it is performing experiments. category: Tetrahydrofurans. Introducing a new discovery about 453-20-3, Name is 3-Hydroxytetrahydrofuran

The microwave spectrum of 3-hydroxytetrahydrofuran was recorded using a Fourier transform microwave spectrometer; the rotational constants (MHz) are: A = 5581.8230(7), B = 3638.8316(7), and C = 2924.7410(7). Microwave spectra for four 13C isotopic species were recorded in natural abundance. Stark effect measurements were used to determine the projections of the dipole moment on the principal inertial axes: mua = 0.956(1) D, mub = 0.875(2) D, muc = 1.050(2) D, and mutot = 1.667(2) D. The internal coordinates of the carbon and oxygen atoms were least-squares fit to the 15 moments of inertia, and the best-fit structure is a C4?-endo envelope ring conformation, in good agreement with ab initio calculations (MP2/6-31G??)-

The conversion of renewable cellulosic biomass into hydrocarbons has attracted significant attention with a growing demand of sustainability. MeReO3 catalyzes the deoxydehydration (DODH) of glycols and epoxides to alkenes by primary and secondary alcohols (5-nonanol, 3-octanol, 1-butanol) in the benzene solvent. The product yield range from moderate to excellent.

We studied dissociative electron attachment to a series of compounds with one or two hydroxyl groups. For the monoalcohols we found, apart from the known fragmentations in the 6-12 eV range proceeding via Feshbach resonances, also new weaker processes at lower energies, around 3 eV. They have a steep onset at the dissociation threshold and show a dramatic D/H isotope effect. We assigned them as proceeding via shape resonances with temporary occupation of sigma*O-H orbitals. These low energy fragmentations become much stronger in the larger molecules and the strongest DEA process in the compounds with two hydroxyl groups, which thus represent an intermediate case between the behavior of small alcohols and the sugar ribose which was discovered to have strong DEA fragmentations near zero electron energy [S. Ptasinska, S. Denifl, P. Scheier and T. D. Maerk, J. Chem. Phys., 2004, 120, 8505]. Above 6 eV, in the Feshbach resonance regime, the dominant process is a fast loss of a hydrogen atom from the hydroxyl group. In some cases the resulting (M – 1)- anion (loss of hydrogen atom) is sufficiently energy-rich to further dissociate by loss of stable, closed shell molecules like H2 or ethene. The fast primary process is state- and site selective in several cases, the negative ion states with a hole in the n O orbital losing the OH hydrogen, those with a hole in the sigmaC-H orbitals the alkyl hydrogen. the Owner Societies.

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has been shown to be the causative agent for AIDS. The HIV virus encodes for a unique aspartyl protease that is essential for the production of enzymes and proteins in the final stages of maturation. Protease inhibitors have been useful in combating the disease. The inhibitors incorporate a variety of isosteres including the hydroxyethylurea at the protease cleavage site. We have shown that the replacement of t-butylurea moiety by benzothiazolesulfonamide provided inhibitors with improved potency and antiviral activities. Some of the compounds have shown good oral bioavailability and half-life in rats. The synthesis of benzothiazole derivatives led us to explore other heterocycles. During the course of our studies, we also developed an efficient synthesis of benzothiazole-6-sulfonic acid via a two-step procedure starting from sulfanilamide.
